The Canterbury Tales
The Author:
Geoffrey Chaucer, born between 1340 & 1345, would go on diplomatic missions which exposed him to many other authors' works, including Dante, Boccaccio & Froissart.

Historical Context:
During Chaucer's life, it was basically easier to die. The Black Death was taking lives through out all of his life. In fact, the Black Death was more heard of than Chaucer's choice of language in the Canterbury Tales. Back then, French and Latin were dominate languages, so it was unheard of to publish a piece of work in English-which Geoffrey Chaucer did. In this article, it explains how the rich were profiting off war & began to indulge, escalating class tensions and how you can percieve this through Chaucers' work.

Most of the tales are framed in first-person point of view. The title originates from the contribution of stories between a group of pilgrims who are on their way to the Canterbury Cathedral. The tales start by narration from Chaucer, a pilgrim, and is more thought of as a character rather than a reflection of the author.
